To keep it short, because tldr is not even a question when it comes to Alan Wake, there's some sort of cosmic horror/eldritch abominations which are beings of darkness, and they have something of a gateway in Cauldron Lake of Bright Falls. One of those beings latches onto Jake, and his life goes downhill from there. So darkness is the word, really. Specific context is usually anything symbolic of that, darkness taking over light (ex. coffee soaking into a sugar cube), or even images of others that have been taken by the darkness. In the canon, he sees images of things he's taken in during his time in Bright Falls, so in the game, he'd probably see things more related to his experiences in Zelien.
I'll be sure to describe whatever imagery he could pick up on, from generic to specific, so yeah, accidentally seems like it'd be interesting and I was planning on putting up an open log for darkness-related things within the next week after getting the arrival threads further along.
